ATHENS PHILHARMONIC

ATHENS PHILHARMONIC Carnegie Hall debut

For their auspicious Carnegie Hall debut, they [the Athens Philharmonic] made the extraordinarily bold choice of the mammoth Mahler 2nd Symphony, "Resurrection" - a supremely challenging work for any orchestra - let alone one that is less than a year old! Yet they approached it with a maturity and style one would expect from any other established world-class orcestra.

The ATHENS PHILHARMONIC | «ΦΑ» was established on 28 December 2018 by Conductor, Pianist, and Composer Yiannis Hadjiloizou, the very day of Composer & Conductor Theodore Antoniou's funeral. «ΦΑ» has its roots in the foundations of the Cyprus Academy of Music (Established 1956), the Nicosia Music Society (Established 1971), and the Cyprus Philharmonic Orchestra (Established 2007).

The mission statement has been clear since the very beginning. That is, to make the Athens Philharmonic the greatest cultural ambassador of Greece to the World. It is their core value that Music and its messengers have the power to bridge any and all differences between peoples and encourage betterment of the humankind, triggering Cross Cultural and Interfaith Dialogue, as a means of fostering greater understanding, tolerance, and acceptance across the world.

Among other major international stages, «ΦΑ» has performed at Athens' Megaron, New York's Carnegie Hall, Piraeus' Municipal Theatre, Nicosia's Presidential Palace, receiving triumphant reviews.
